Zamfara State and LGA Awards

April 27, 2024

In 2017, the All Babies program launched in Zamfara. The program is active in 266 clinics across 11 of Zamfara’s 14 LGAs. It is a privilege to partner with Zamfara State in order to incentivize and promote childhood vaccinations. As of April 2024, more than 250,000 babies from Zamfara have been enrolled in our program.

In 2023, NI-ABAE began holding State and LGA Award ceremonies in appreciation of our partners' achievements in increasing childhood immunization rates and saving lives. In April 2024, NI-ABAE staff and stakeholders—including the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, a representative of the Commissioner for Health, traditional leaders, and partners such as WHO, UNICEF, and AFENET—gathered in Command Guest House, Gusau, Zamfara, to present ₦150,000 awards in five categories to Zamfara’s highest-performing LGAs:

  • Gusau LGA received the Enrollments Award for its 19,288 enrollments, which constituted the highest percentage uptake of infants enrolled in Zamfara.
  • As the LGA with the highest percentages of infants returning for Penta 1 (95%), Penta 2 (91%), and Penta 3 (88%) vaccinations, Bakura LGA was given the Penta Retention Rate Award
  • Gusau LGA received the Vaccine Supply Award because it had the lowest ratio of vaccine stockouts in comparison to disbursement sessions in Q4 2023.
  • The Documentation Award went to Bukkuyum LGA, the LGA with the lowest percentage of issues identified, with just 31 cases.
  • Bungudu LGA was presented the Activities Award for conducting the highest number of community activities in the state: a total of 1,542 awareness, campaign, and outreach events.

In addition, this year’s Best NI-ABAE Manager Award of ₦30,000 was given to Rashidat Abdulrasheed for her effectiveness in supporting the LGA by boosting enrollments and immunization rates and managing mobilization, outreach, and stakeholder engagement.

We look forward to hosting this State and LGA award event annually and fostering healthy competition as we work toward increasing vaccination rates and reducing zero-dose children in Zamfara State.
