Katsina State Program Addition Launch

September 30, 2024

In September, the Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, launched an addition to the All Babies program, aimed at improving child health and immunization across the state. This initiative, in collaboration with New Incentives – All Babies Are Equal (ABAE), introduces a ₦5,000 Livelihood Grant to encourage caregivers to complete their children’s routine immunization schedules.

The launch event, held at the Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency, celebrated the implementation of this livelihood grant across 1,280 public clinics in the state. This additional incentive seeks to address persistent challenges in immunization uptake, including retention rates, while supporting caregivers with living costs.

Governor Radda, who presented the livelihood grant to eligible caregivers during the event, praised the innovative efforts of New Incentives in tackling these challenges:

“By working together, we can ensure every child in Katsina receives the vaccinations they need to lead a healthy and productive life. This program underscores our commitment to the well-being of future generations,” he said.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the State Commissioner of Health, the Honorable Dr. Musa Adamu Funtua; the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahya; and community leaders who emphasized the critical role of collaboration in improving healthcare outcomes.

Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahya commended Governor Radda’s dedication to improving health indicators in Katsina and expressed gratitude for New Incentives’ efforts:

“Routine immunization is essential for preventing the spread of diseases and safeguarding the health of our children. With the additional support provided through the Livelihood Grant, we are making great strides in ensuring no child is left behind.”

Since its inception in 2017, the All Babies program has contributed to a significant increase in immunization coverage in Katsina State. According to Ahmad Abdussalam Liadi, one of New Incentives’ Operations Coordinators, the rate of zero-dose children has decreased by 66% in Katsina since the program began scaling in 2022.

The Livelihood Grant provides critical financial support to caregivers, alleviating economic constraints while reinforcing the importance of timely vaccinations. Caregivers receive the ₦5,000 grant upon completing their child’s vaccination schedule, a move that not only promotes health but also supports families in need.

This program reflects the shared vision of New Incentives and the Katsina State Government to create healthier communities through innovative solutions and collaborative efforts. As Governor Radda stated,

“Our partnership with New Incentives is a testament to what can be achieved when government and organizations unite for a common cause. Together, we are building a healthier and brighter future for Katsina State.”

With continued collaboration and commitment, Katsina State is setting a precedent for advancing healthcare and ensuring the well-being of its youngest citizens and their communities.
