Jigawa State and LGA Awards

February 28, 2024

In 2017, the All Babies program launched in Jigawa. The program is active in 753 clinics across all of Jigawa’s 27 LGAs. It is a privilege to partner with Jigawa State in order to incentivize and promote childhood vaccinations. As of February 2024, more than 647,000 babies from Jigawa have been enrolled in our program.

In 2023, NI-ABAE began holding State and LGA Award ceremonies in appreciation of our partners' achievements in increasing childhood immunization rates and saving lives. In February 2024, NI-ABAE staff and stakeholders—including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Health Care, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, a representative of the Commissioner for Health, traditional leaders, and partners such as WHO, UNICEF, and AFENET—gathered in Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, New State Secretariate, Dutse, Jigawa, to present ₦150,000 awards in five categories to Jigawa’s highest-performing LGAs:

  • Sule Tankarkar LGA received the Enrollments Award for enrolling more than 9,000 infants.
  • As the LGA with the highest percentage of infants returning for Penta 3 (92%) vaccinations, Miga LGA was given the Retention Award
  • Hedejia LGA received the Vaccine Supply Award because of its effectiveness in ensuring vaccines are available at the clinics for the caregivers they serve.
  • The Documentation Award went to Babura LGA for its outstanding commitment to having proper records and documentation.
  • Gwaram LGA  was presented the Activities Award for conducting 1,137 awareness activities.

In addition, this year’s Best NI-ABAE Manager Award of ₦30,000 was given to Yakubu Bashir in recognition of his support of the LGA through quality assessments and his team's high rate of executed activities. Dr. Kabir Ibrahim also received an award of appreciation for his unwavering support for the NI-ABAE program since its beginning in the state of Jigawa.

We look forward to hosting this State and LGA award event annually and fostering healthy competition as we work toward increasing vaccination rates and reducing zero-dose children in Jigawa State.
